Opening Night for Some Special Women

I didn’t blog last week, as I have been steeped in rehearsals for a very special play:  My Mother’s Story.  We are a cast of eight women, telling the stories of ordinary women’s lives – except that they are all extraordinary.

The call went out last year, to women on Vancouver’s North Shore, to write the story of their mothers’ lives, in 2000 words.  From all who sent in stories, eight were selected to be woven together into a play.  So we, the actors, each play the writer and her Mum.  The stories range geographically far and wide, and cover many ethnicities.  [Read more…]

Hogmanay Chocolate Scotch Truffles

It’s that time of the year, again.  I don’t know whether it’s because my DNA has begun forcing itself to the fore as I get older, but I have noticed that for the past few years, as the New Year approaches, I feel a pressing need to return library books, settle any debts incurred over the year, return anything borrowed from a friend, and most remarkably, clean the house from top to bottom (no mean feat for me and a downright torture for my boys). With Apologies to the Wildlife of Stanley Park

It’s a tradition in the theatre for actors to exchange opening night presents – a little something to wish each other well.

I’m currently appearing in the stage version of It’s A Wonderful Life at the Arts Club on Granville Island in Vancouver.  We opened last week.

While searching for the perfect way to celebrate the world premiere of  The Patron Saint of Stanley Park and the opening night of our friends and colleagues “across the alley”, at the Arts Club Revue Stage, the cast and crew of It’s a Wonderful Life have been wracking our collective brains.
